ABOUT
The telegraph station building that walls form its rear front, is a 19th century structure. One part of the building which consists of two parts, preserves the original plan and structural elements whereas the interior wall and floors of the other part were removed and transformed into reinforced concrete in the 20th century. In the entrance part of which main walls are stone/brick masonry and brick arch floored, the original plan and materials have been conserved. In the second part of the building which forms the main reader's hall, the reinforced concrete addenda have been removed by conserving the main walls. The obtained large body has become functional as a library which would host 50 thousand books of Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin and more books planned to be buy.
The library which is planned to build a relation between the interior space, the historical fortification walls outside and with the nature of Gülhane Park, has been aimed to provide a calm atmosphere for its users with the combination of its surroundings and architectural elements. It has been aimed to create a spacious space perception for the users by using new mezzanine floor structure and open timber trusses.
